Man of Omega Hurdling For Gold
Jeff Porter was born in East Orange, New Jersey and currently resides in Canton, Michigan. Jeff crossed Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in the summer of 2006 at the University of Michigan.
Jeff is attending his 2nd Olympic games and is looking for revenge this Summer 16 in Rio. He will be participating in the 110 meter hurdles and has specialized in this since 2001.
Jeff admits that being Greek has helped him thus far in his track and field career. “Being Greek has not only influenced my Olympic experience but the process of getting to this point. There have been many times along the way that I wanted to quit and thought I couldn't continue to do this. Because of what I learned trying to be a man of Omega, quitting is no longer in my vocabulary. I focus on persevering through challenges because on the other side, lies greater rewards.”
Jeff’s greatest challenge is overcoming doubt. “There are many to tell you why someone else is the favorite or why you can't do something. Trying not to let that nonsense get to me is easily one of the greatest challenges because I've been an underdog my entire life. In addition, I've had to watch competitors who weren't as accomplished get sponsorship deals that I could only dream about and it's hard not to consider that skin color has something to do with it.”
Be sure to catch Jeff in the 110 meter hurdles during the Rio Olympic 2016 games!
