Who is Mr. Bankshot?
Nick Banks is a 27-year old from Elyria, Ohio, but the social media world knows him as Mr. Bankshot.
Mr. Bankshot crossed Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the Spring of 2011. He became a member as a result of the close relationships with members in the organization without even knowing their affiliations. “I knew nothing about Greek life before attending Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Once I got there, the Alphas were visible on campus with educational programs and community service,” Bankshot stated. “I did my research and it was the best fit for me.”
When it comes to being a comedian, Mr. Bankshot admits that he has been a funny guy all of his life, but didn’t start taking it serious until September 2013. “I got into a car accident in August of that year, totaled my car and walked away with a couple scratches. It opened my eyes a bit as far as life goes. We don’t have much time here on this Earth so you can live life one of two ways…work for someone else dreams or work for your own. So that’s when I began doing videos on social media to get my name out there."
Mr. Bankshot’s motivation to continue in the entertainment field is simple. He enjoys doing it, he’s great at it and it’s not something everyone can do. “I want to be successful for my family because we had a rough childhood growing up and just being in a position where I have the potential to make that happen means a lot to me and I don’t take it for granted. I love spreading laughter to people. It’s truly the best medicine.”
Mr. Bankshot also illustrates about his relationship with his comedian sidekick, his wife, Maya Banks. “Maya and I have been married a little over a year now. We actually attended pre school together but went our separate paths as far as middle school, high school, and college goes. We had both known of each other from being from the same county back home. We both were in long relationships prior to getting together.”
Bankshot admits that he “slid in her DM” on Twitter and she replied. “I told her I was going to be in Columbus and wanted to see if she would be interested in grabbing some food and the rest is history. She is the type of woman you need pursuing a career like this. Understanding, loving, supporting, everything. Not to mention she’s easy on the eyes.”
Just recently, Mr. Bankshot has started his own videography company called Banks Boys Productions LLC. “I was using my cell phone to record all my videos for a couple years and the beginning of 2016, I purchased a camera and realized well I’m making all these videos for myself, and editing them, so why not do what I love for a living? So I just have my company and my comedic material to focus on. Recently quit my job that I’ve had since 2014 so now all that energy can go to my craft. “
Mr. Bankshot also has an alter ego he refers to as “Pastor Flavor.”
Pastor Flavor is a pastor in the black community whose only desire is to get rich. He takes popular songs and remixes them into songs about offering. “I got the name from a real minister at my grandmother’s church from back in the day, Minister Flavor. The whole concept pretty much just came from stereotype that churches are out to get everyone’s money and it started out as just one video, then I did another one. I noticed T-Boz from TLC had posted it on her Instagram page and I decided that I will do this every Sunday. It then got to a point where I wanted to just give him his own page because all his videos are clean to whereas my page is watch at your own risk. So now he has about 80,000 followers on Instagram with over 100 church parodies.” Make sure to check him out on Instagram @PastorFlavor.
