Phi Beta Sigma’s Richard Sherman Demands NFL Commissioner to Give Up Some Power
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. member and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman expressed his frustrations on the NFL’s policy on domestic violence, encouraging NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to give up some of his power. https://instagram.com/p/BMEqcwAhw4I/
In a column of The Players Tribune, Sherman stated, “I think the NFL had its way, we would all be robots.”
Sherman then goes on to say, “We would all be perfect human beings off the field so that the league would never have to deal with another [public relations] nightmare and everybody would smile and nod and hand the ball over to the official after a touchdown or a big play.”
Sherman debated that the league is attempting to constitute emotions out of the game and could be the decline in ratings and fan interest.
According to ESPN, Sherman made a statement towards domestic violence and the NFL’s stance by saying, “The reality is that the league says that there is no place for domestic violence in the NFL. Its actions in the most recent cases, however, simply haven’t reflected that. This is just another reason why players don’t have a lot of trust in the league. The league says one things, but when it comes to act, it does another.”
Sherman recommended that former players and coaches should be assigned to handle issues from domestic violence to suspensions and fines.
